What is the Interactive Conversation?

The Intercative Conversation is a digital image of a person who responds in real time to individually posed questions with pre-recorded answers. The digital likeness can be shown on screens, 3D screens, video installations or as holograms, for example.

Example: A life-size 3D projection of a politically well-known personality answers visitors to the German Bundestag their individual questions.

How does the Interactive Conversation work?

A video catalogue is created from a large number of pre-recorded answers from an interlocutor, to which your question is transmitted with the help of voice recognition. The appropriate answer is selected from the video catalogue and the virtual interlocutor speaks with you.

The latest stereoscopic recording and playback technology creates a realistic impression that blurs the boundaries between real and virtual. look and Virtuell verschwimmen lässt.

How real does the Interactive Conversation look?

By using the latest 3D technology, the virtual interlocutor impresses with an immediate presence, as if it were a face-to-face dialogue. Due to the virtual experience, a certain distance nevertheless remains, which makes it easier for you to ask (even unpleasant) questions.

The virtual interlocutor is a digital image of the interlocutor during the recording. The authenticity or closeness to reality can be selected depending on the chosen playback platform and size and, in the case of stereoscopic 3D playback, imitates the realism of a four-eye conversation.

IN WHICH AREAS CAN THE Interactive Conversation BE USED?

The virtual interlocutor can be used wherever a personal conversation would be desirable but hardly possible.

Our customers are, for example, from the fields of

      • Research: Universities
      • Education: schools, museums
      • Leisure: Museums
      • Economy: Companies

This results in virtual interlocutors, e.g.

      • Contemporary witnesses
      • Information provider
      • Prominent personalities
      • Reenactment of historical personalities

WHAT AREAS OF APPLICATION ARE THERE FOR THE INTERACTIVE CONVERSATION?

The applications are versatile: let your creativity run free.

Here are a few examples from implemented and planned projects:

      • Learning with digital testimonies
      • Ludwig II leads through Neuschwanstein
      • Helpdesk Terminal
      • Interactive FAQ

WHAT LANGUAGES DOES The interactive Conversation SPEAK?

In principle, the Interactive Conversation can speak any language that his or her real counterpart speaks - or records in the context of the answer recording.

Since the questions including their variations, the answer catalogue and the speech recognition must be coordinated, the virtual conversation partner is initially available in German and English. Other languages can be requested.

HOW MUCH DOES the interactive conversation COST?

That depends on how extensive the interactive conversation should be. The best thing is to contact us directly regarding your project, then we can give you an estimate of the price depending on the scope...

HOW MANY ANSWERS ARE NECESSARY TO GET A REALISTIC IMPRESSION?

The more questions that are answered in advance, the more realistic the interview impression will be. A minimum of 200 answers should be recorded in any case. We recommend between 400 and 1,000 predefined questions per interview partner.

HOW MANY QUESTIONS CAN BE ASKED PER DAY?

It is possible to record approx. 200-300 answers per day of filming. Of course, this is only a guideline, as the recording volume also depends on your interviewer or how detailed the answers are.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CREATE An Interactive Conversation?

A good guideline for recording the answers is a workload of 200 questions per shooting day.

The duration of the post-production depends on the scope (number and length) of the recorded responses and the desired playback platform. We will draw up a schedule with you in advance, which can range from a few days to several weeks, depending on the project.

WHERE IS THE Interactive Conversation CREATED?

Our company is located near Munich. The headquarters are there and the post-production (post-processing of the video material) is also carried out there. The recording (recording of the answers) can also take place here in our studio. However, we are also happy to come to you for the recording. This requires a suitable studio or a larger room where we can set up the infrastructure for the filming.

The virtual conversation does not have to take place in a studio. The choice of the recording location is completely free and can be adapted to the desired playback platform.

CAN THE SERVICE ALSO BE RENTED everywhere?

The recording of the answers can also take place on your premises - our specialists will be happy to come to you with our technology.

The on-site service can be advantageous for you if, among other things, the person to be recorded is not willing to travel or if you want an individual meeting place (for example, in your company) for the interactive Conversation.

WHICH CAMERA IS USED TO RECORD THE Interactive CONVERSATION?

The recording of the responses is currently done stereoscopically (in 3D) with two ARRI Alexa Mini cameras on a STEREOTEC Light Weight Rig. For the recordings, at least 50 frames per second (max. possible 100fps) are recorded in UHD (high frame rate).

IS THE Interactive Conversation ALWAYS IN 3D?

We always recommend a stereoscopic (3D) recording, as this gives a much more realistic impression. A recording in 3D is always downward compatible with 2D - the 2D version is thus a by-product of the 3D recording and thus automatically included in a 3D recording - this thus enables the full evaluation spectrum from the life-size 3D monitor to the internet version offered in parallel.

Depending on the application or playback platform, the virtual interlocutor can be used in 2D or 3D - optionally switchable.

Glossary

WHAT IS THE QUESTION CATALOGUE OR QUESTION VARIATIONS?

The question catalogue is the collection of all questions asked of the interlocutor during the recording. Since the user could later ask the same question with an alternative sentence structure or with synonyms, several variations are necessary for the entire question catalogue. The question variations are not asked of the interlocutor during the recording, but are stored in the catalogue. Thus, numerous question variations are stored for one answer. New variations can be added continuously (even afterwards).

Example from the questionnaire (this question was asked to the interlocutor to record the answers):

      • "Who are you?"

Examples from the associated question variations:

      • „Wer bist Du?“
      • "What is your name?"
      • "Can you introduce yourself?"

WHAT IS THE ANSWER CATALOGUE OR VIDEO CATALOGUE?

The interviewee answers the entire questionnaire in front of the camera. The resulting video material is edited and a separate video clip is created for each answer, which can be clearly assigned to the questionnaire.

The collection of these video clips is called an answer or video catalogue. If a user later asks the virtual interlocutor a question, it is searched for in the question catalogue via speech recognition. This is also used to assign the correct video clip in the answer catalogue, which is then output on the playback platform.

WHAT ARE THE FALLBACK ANSWERS?

Fallback answers are everything that the interactive conversational partner will answer if he or she does not have a suitable answer to the question asked or if the voice input could not be assigned. Examples of this are:

      • "I'm afraid I didn't understand you"
      • "I'm afraid I don't have an answer to that"
      • "You can also look that up on Wikipedia".

WHY IS SMALL TALK ALSO RECORDED?

The virtual conversational partner conveys a very real feeling of dialogue. Experience shows that after a while, users also ask questions from outside the field - either out of interest or to test the limits of this technology. Examples of this are:

      • "How are you?"
      • "What day is it?"
      • "Can you see me?"
      • "Can you sing to me?"

For all those questions, creative answers are needed that - although ambiguous to answer - satisfy the user or make them smile. For example, the small talk questions listed above could be answered as follows:

      • "Thank you, I am very well!"
      • "For me, today is 26 September, and for you?"
      • "Unfortunately not, because I am in a studio. But I can well imagine you."
      • "Of course *sings" / "You don't really want to hear that! My singing makes glass jump."

WHAT DOES S3D HFR UHD MEAN?

S3D / Stereo3D:

      • The three-dimensional recording and reproduction of film material

HFR / High Frame Rate:

      • Increased (>24 fps) frame rate, providing more realistic motion resolution in film footage

UHD / Ultra High Definition:

      • Successor standard to Full HD with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels

We record our interviewees with a STEREOTEC Light Weight Rig and two ARRI Alexa Mini cameras.
